The Little Brown That Made My Day...wait, that sounds funny.

On Sunday evening Noah and I went to Dick's Sporting Goods Park to watch the Colorado Rapids take on English Premier League Team Everton FC. Everton was clearly a much better team and if they had been in season instead of pre-season they would have ripped us apart. To the credit of the Rapids they looked pretty good themselves and held up until late in the game. The highlight for me was when Everton's stud midfielder beat three rapids defenders and took a shot from 18 yards out and put it in the far left corner.

Also.......

I went Fly Fishing up at Bear Creek last night with Jason. We only walked a half mile section of stream but it was a lot of fun...and I caught my first trout in Colorado. I have to admit my first three casts usually left a lot to be desired, but my fourth and so on always got much better. I caught my Brown next to a rock with a good current running by it...the fish took me off guard soo I was pulling in line with reckless abandon and managed to get him. Its not that big of fish...but Jason said it was a big one for the area of creek we fished. Thanks for the Fishing gear Dad! It worked really well (besides the fact I was using it).


-Jason has to tie my flies on because I don't know how yet (I really mean that...YET) and I wouldn't know what fly to use anyways.


-I am starting to Like it more and more at this point....because it takes some time to find the rhythm (and to be intentional about the movements I am making with the rod/line/etc)

San Diego Weekend

This weekend I went down to San Diego for Josh Cooper's wedding. I was able to do a bunch of other fun things as well. Such as...Touring the San Diego Maritime Museum as well as a retired Aircraft Carrier the USS MIDWAY, Surfing on PAcific Beach, hanging out at Mission Bay, and enjoying the beauty of San Diego Bay (while reading). And when I got home to Denver I went right to the USA VS BRAZIL womens national team game at Dicks Sporting Goods Park (home of the Colorado Rapids). We won 1-0. I wish I took more pictures of people and events...but I forgot my camera for the wedding and the game and when I was chilling with Ryan (who I stayed with... he just moved out there and lives real close to the beach).

Enough Deals....All I want is some shopping peace!

Where Angie has been on a roll, getting the deals on food and other supplies, I have been striking out and getting ticked while doing it.

It all started last night at wal-mart. I hadn't grocery shopped in like 3 1/2 weeks and I had a lot to get. I shopped for an hour working my way from the back of the store to the front. Near the end I looked in my cart and felt really good about my decisions finding both healthy (relatively) and affordable food. HOWEVER, when I got to the front and saw that every line had 15 people in it with their carts overflowing (some with two or three) my excitement quickly faded. I waited for 10 minutes and calculated that I would be waiting for another hour to hour and a half (honestly...why can't friggen wal-mart open one more of the other ten checkouts that were not being used!!)

Soo...I did what anyone with out patience would do. I walked my cart to the back of the store, called a friend, and walked out to my car and went to King Soopers (a colorado grocery story) and shopped for all my groceries again.

If that wasn't enough to tick a guy off, I went to goodwill today and as I watch 5 people attack (literally attack!) the cart of new books to be put on the shelf. They all had their own carts and grabbed as many books as they could as fast as they could. As I stood their watching in awe I could not help but feel like I was in a very primal place. I also felt a little sick. As I walked back to the shelves of books I saw a cart full of books full to the brim...not thinking about what just happen, I started to look at the books (nothing good in it) when I lady came up and said "THOSE ARE MY BOOKS!". I was like "ohh...sorry...I didn't know." (half thinking ..who friggen reads that much!).

That is when I decided that I needed to leave before I caught that sickness and started hoarding books for myself.

On the drive home I also decided that it is worth it to pay a bit more for stuff if you don't have wait for hours or act like a child hoarding all the toys for yourself.

First Fly Fishing Experience

Last Wednesday Jason (my boss) took me up to Rocky Mountain National Park and taught me how to fly fish. We started at Wild Basin trail head and hiked about 4 miles up to Ouzel Creek. One of the reasons we had to go up so far is that the water was running like crazy until we got up there.
I didn't catch anything and Jason only caught one, but the trip was a very good time and a learning experience (lets just say I lost a lot of flies to trees and logs). Here are some pics of the trip.

Just another day at work...

Today the Brothers summer staff went out for a day away to enjoy some of God's creation and do some team building. We went to Saint Mary's Glacier about 1 hour and 15 minutes away to do some hiking and fishing. Jason did the fishing and everyone else did the hiking. After hiking the mountain I sat on a ridge and looked down the crazy steep snow sticking to the side of the mountain and wondered if I had enough ______ to Glicade (Spelling? Meaning:slide down on my butt) down it. So, after about ten minutes of debating and looking over the edge (which I might add had no paths down it) it leaned over and slid down. The video shows some but the crazier part was farther down where there was only a 15 foot gap between two boulders that I snuck through. Steve and Nate followed after they saw I made it to the bottom alive.

Definitely not a regular day at work...but I sure learned a lot.... Every test we face makes us stronger (as long as we live to learn from it).

Jefferson Lake

This past Sunday and Monday I went to Jefferson Colorado and did a bit of hiking and some camping with Steve (summer staff and in the same grade from Dordt) and Noah (roommate at Dordt and Home Maintenance and Repair at Brothers). It was a bit cold because we were camping at about 10,000 ft, but we remedied that by sleeping in the back of Noah's van. Initially I did not like the idea of sleeping in a van while camping, however, after a bit of time I realized that its already 15 feet away from the site...so we might as well stay warm and sleep in it.

New Things

As some of you know, yesterday a "apartment cleaner dude" rang the doorbell and asked if I wanted to take the desk that the neighbors left in their house when they moved out. I of course said "sure....well, let me look at it first". When it was all said and done I acquired a queen size pillow-top bed with a box and frame, a lamp, corner table, two crappy paintings, a garbage can, and of course a sweet desk. Here are some pictures of the items.

I love the park.

This past Saturday Ryan and I went up to Rocky Mountain National Park and did some spring hiking. We had to go through a lot of snow, but on the way down it was a great deal of fun to slide on the snow (though we fell quite often). Thank goodness I finally got up to the mountains..I was beginning to think I would go crazy; seeing them everyday and not being able to climb them.

In other news...A friend gave me two free tickets to the Colorado Rapids Game last Thursday and I got a free ticket to go the Rockies Game today with Jason, Jamie, and another one of our friends. Soo...I have been really blessed lately to be able to enjoy some of the things Denver has to offer with out breaking the bank.
